Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation

Through its effects on water resources, climate change impacts food security, energy production, ecosystem health, and public safety.  These impacts are particularly acute in remote northern communities due to the accelerated rates of change, the more extreme environmental conditions and continuation of subsistent lifestyles. At NHC we understand the need for understanding the complex and changing relationships between physical, biological and human environments that are impacting norther communities.  We we maintain strong connections with key data providers across Alaska, including NOAA, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks, which grants us access to a wealth of relevant data and institutional knowledge. Our team applies the latest guidance from the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard Climate-Informed Science Approach (CISA) Report to address climate-related challenges, with a focus on considerations specific to Alaskan communities.
