Nanaimo, BC
Vanessa is a professional hydrotechnical / coastal engineer with 11 years of extensive experience with hydraulic and wave modelling for use in floodplain mapping, management, and mitigation projects. She uses innovative tools to model both riverine and coastal environments to analyze potential flood events, help predict flood hazards and develop flood management strategies. She has developed, calibrated and validated models in HEC-RAS, RAS2D, Delft3D, SWAN, Telemac and MIKE11, and has also presented a short technical course with others on RAS2D at EGBC. She has experience working at regional scales with multiple communities and with the more specific needs of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous smaller communities. She enjoys working together with interest holders to develop solutions that suit communal needs. Her recent projects have focused on river and coastal 2D hydraulic models with wind and wave analysis to produce floodplain maps as well as developing flood management strategies and flood mitigation solutions.
