Operations Support Technician

About the Role

As an Operations Support Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring NHC’s field programs run smoothly and efficiently. Working within a team of skilled field technicians and professionals, you will be responsible for managing NHC owned equipment, including overseeing internal bookings, tracking usage, addressing scheduling conflicts, and implementing a maintenance program. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting audits, managing periodic testing of instrumentation, handling field logistics, and supporting field teams with their operational needs. The role ensures the smooth operation of equipment management, from tracking to procurement, maintenance, and shipment logistics.

NHC’s field operations cover most of the province of British Columbia and extend to areas of the Yukon and Northwest Territories. Our staff operate from four primary work locations: North Vancouver, Squamish, Nanaimo, and Kamloops; equipment is housed at each of these locations. The Operations Support Technician will be primarily responsible for equipment and assets located in the Lower Mainland; however, support to other office locations is also expected.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and manage NHC assets, includes:

  • Support a comprehensive master inventory of all field equipment and instrumentation
  • Manage and track equipment usage
  • Implement a maintenance program to ensure equipment is ready for deployment
  • Address damaged or worn equipment through warranties, maintenance, and/or replacement
  • Respond to project requests

Logistics support, includes:

  • Assisting field crews with mobilization
  • Assisting field crews with emergency shipments
  • Miscellaneous administrative support
  • Follow-up to ensure equipment usage is billed to the correct client project

Oversee the field demobilization process; includes:

  • Ensuring all equipment is returned to its designated location and inspected for damage
  • Removing damaged or defective equipment from the equipment pool (red-tagging) until it can be repaired or replaced
  • Conducting regular, recurring audits and preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Establishing an equipment lifecycle management plan
  • Ensuring the information in the asset management software (SNIPE) is accurate and up to date

Purchasing support, includes:

  • Build familiarity and relationships with vendors
  • Manage the ordering, tracking, receiving, and inventory of hardware and instrumentation, consumable field supplies, replacement parts, and safety equipment
  • Monitor the costs of acquiring, maintaining, and operating equipment to assist ownership in decision making for future purchases
  • Facilitate the procurement of insurance for high-value rental equipment

Overseeing vehicle and boat maintenance, includes:

  • Implementing the maintenance schedule for NHC-owned field trucks, light vans, and survey boats
  • Facilitate (or arrange) movement of vehicles and boats to external servicing locations
  • Addressing reported issues and ensuring readiness for deployment

Qualifications

  • We welcome candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience. Education in a field relating to Business Administration, Operations Management is considered an asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to quickly address operational challenges and provide support solutions
  • Ability to assess and streamline operations, identify inefficiencies and develop process improvements
  • Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong time-management skills to ensure deadlines and operational goals are met
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with field crews, management, and other teams
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team
  • Ability to proactively initiate problem solving and process improvements
  • Experience with inventory control and asset management processes
  • Experience with managing logistics, including shipments and field mobilization
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems relating to vehicles, and boats
  • Knowledge or experience working within a formal health and safety program
  • Class 5 BC driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Strong proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)

Salary

$57,000 – $70,000 per year (starting salary will depend on knowledge, skills, and experience).
