Geomorphology Co-op

About Us

Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd. (NHC) is an international firm of engineers, geoscientists, and technologists providing professional services for the development, management, and protection of water resources.

We have an opening for a geography student who is interested in the field of geomorphology and data science as it relates to coastal and water resources to join us for a four – or eight – month co-op term starting in May 2026. The successful candidate will be working with geoscientists, engineers and technicians in our North Vancouver, BC office on various coastal and hydrotechnical projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Shoreline change mapping with ArcGIS Pro in the Lower Fraser River and Estuary
  • Shoreline change assessment with ArcGIS Pro and DSAS
  • Sediment sampling analysis either in lab or with digital PSD analysis software
  • Assisting with flume set up and testing (CSO Particle Entrainment)
  • Bankline mapping data preparation
  • Supporting other, geomorphology and data science projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic GIS skills (preferably ArcGIS Pro or Global Mapper experience)
  • Basic geomorphology courses
  • Basic instrumentation experience
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and in teams
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
